Rodents

Brown Rat

Larger in size and weighs 250gms (females) & 400gms (males). Their head & body can reach up to 25cm in length but their tails can be shorter about 21cm. Brown Rats are ‘neo phobic’ meaning they are weary of new objects
Rats contaminate everything they encounter with droppings, urine, and hairs. They carry a wide range of diseases and parasites which is potentially harmful to humans and animals. Leptospirosis, or Weil’s disease, can be fatal to humans. Other diseases such as Salmonella and Toxoplasmosis affect both humans and animals, and parasites can present further hazards.

Rats are not normally found within the home, but if you find them to be, it leads to serious health risks and needs tackling immediately. Meanwhile, if you see rats in your garden, it would be wise to consider rat control to ensure that they don't gain access to your home.

House Mice

Average size 70-90mm long plus the tail - Average weight 15g - Colour: Usually brownish grey or black

Mice are excellent climbers and they can climb vertical walls if the surface is sufficiently rough. They are able to climb up flexes, cables and inside wall cavities too. They are able to get through gaps as small as a pencil.

Mice need to be removed from your home or premises as they are a health hazard and carry diseases which can be transmitted to humans either directly, or through their faeces and urine. They cause damage to structures, water pipes, electrical wiring etc. by gnawing and burrowing. They can also undermine foundations and destroy the fabric of buildings.

They are also a risk to you and your family's health, because of the diseases they carry, especially in areas such as your kitchen or places where your children play.
